What is website hosting?

Websites, like the rest of us, need somewhere to live. A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organisations to make their website accessible via the World Wide Web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server they own or lease for use by their clients.

Your options

Greg Grant Website Design hosts your website

We lease server space from a company called Heart Internet. And that is where we host the majority of our clients' websites. This is normally the most cost-effective way to host your website. If we build your website then hosting (and domain name) is free for the first year. Thereafter it costs from £30 per year.

We have used Heart Internet for a number of years and have found them to be reliable, secure and responsive. You can find out more by visiting Heart Internet.

You buy dedicated hosting

This means that you buy a hosting package just for your business or organisation. You are free to choose any package you like but you must allow us full access to your hosting to enable us to upload your website initially and to manage it thereafter.

Free webspace from your ISP

Many Internet Service Providers (ISPs) offer free webspace. This can be fine for small websites, however, most ISPs limit the size of the website and the amount of 'bandwidth' available (the amount of data used - which roughly translates into the number of visitors to your website). Often you're not able to use your own domain name.

In-house or company servers

Larger organisations often have their own servers. We're happy to upload your website to your company's server. If your company policy doesn't allow this we can 'Zip' the completed website and send it to your IT people to upload.
